Well, it's the end of the year. Vince Gray gets inaugurated in three days. The mayor-elect has appointed or re-appointed a slew of agency heads, but a few key spots remain unfilled: The Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and the directors of the Departments of Housing and Economic Development (DHCD) and Transportation (DDOT) are big ones. Plus, there are the Departments of Real Estate Services (DRES), Parks and Recreation (DPW), Public Education Facilities Management (OPEFM), Human Services (DHS); as well as the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA), and Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH).
(Meanwhile, Gray wasted no time installing permanent directors of the Offices on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs and Cable Television).
Transition staff says there are no plans to announce more appointments before Sunday. Some agencies have interim directors: Senior construction manager Brian Hanlon has been elevated to head DRES, for example, and Ayris Scales is temporarily leading DCCAH. But spokespeople confirmed this morning that nobody's been installed at DHCD or DDOT, so come Monday, staffers at two of the District's most important agencies may have no bosses. Woo hoo!
UPDATE, 1:48 p.m. - No announced interim director for OPEFM, either.
