Snowplow Operator Wins Lottery, in Moment of Blizzard Karma

Does anyone deserve to win the lottery more than Gerald Fincham?

Fincham was operating a large snowplow in Northern Virginia Monday when he took a little break and bought a drink at a Food Lion in Woodbridge, Virginia. While he was there, he bought a lottery ticket.

And hit the $225,000 top prize in Virginia Lottery's Pirate Treasure scratch-off game.

And then he went right back to work -- plowing snow. He operates a large motor grader, part of the equipment used after the historic snowfall of the Blizzard of 2016.

“I was in the right place at the right time,” said Fincham, who lives in Hughesville, Maryland, as he claimed his prize a few days later. “My family got more excited than I did.”

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,060,800, Virginia Lottery said.
