Smoking Luggage Deemed Harmless at BWI

Plane cleared while luggage investigated on tarmac

A piece of luggage with smoke coming out of it disrupted operations at Thurgood Marshall Baltimore-Washington International Airport Thursday afternoon.

The smoking luggage was discovered on the tarmac near a Southwest plane destined for Las Vegas.

Passengers were taken off the plane while crews looked at the luggage.

Officials said items in the luggage were harmless, and the passengers were allowed to continue on with their flight.
