Smoke Forces Residents Out of NW DC Apartment Building

An apartment building in northwest Washington caught fire early Saturday morning, forcing people out of the structure, according to the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department

Crews were called to the 2700 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest, and arrived shortly before 7:30 a.m. Saturday. They found smoke coming from a basement apartment and discovered a fire inside.

They said the fire was knocked down by automatic sprinklers, but smoke traveled throughout the three-story apartment building. Residents were evacuated from their homes to avoid the smoke.

There are no reports of injuries. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
