Smile Drivers! You Were Caught on Bus Cam

Frederick County Public Schools installs cameras on school buses

Drivers already have to be on the lookout for speed cameras and red light cameras, but now there’s a new one to watch out for.

Frederick County Public Schools have installed cameras on school buses to catch drivers speeding past them,  the Frederick News Post reports.

In the past year, 11 buses have been equipped with the special cameras, and nine more of the $1,350 cameras are ready to be installed.  Still, it's a small portion of the more than 400 buses used by the school system.

The two-camera system can capture a vehicle's front and back license plate, time, date, GPS position and speed.

Drivers won't get ticketed however if caught on camera -- at least for now.  That's because a bill allowing the tickets was not approved by the Maryland General Assembly.
