Small Plane Ends Up in Cornfield

A small plane went down in cornfield near a Bowie airport Saturday morning.

Prince George’s Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady reported on Twitter that the single engine plane was secured and all four occupants appeared to be okay.

Brady said the cornfield was adjacent to the runway at Freeway Airport on Church Road in Bowie.

Details at the moment are limited, but the preliminary investigation indicates the pilot of the single engine Skyhawk airplane was landing at the Freeway Airport when the mishap occurred.

For reasons unknown at this time, the aircraft veered away from the runway and landed upside down in a cornfield, about 100 feet from the runway.
