Skimming Device Found on Calvert County ATM

At least 50 ATM users in Dunkirk had cash stolen straight from their bank accounts--and there could be even more victims.

Police in Calvert County say someone placed a skimming device on the ATM at the Sun Trust Bank on Southern Maryland Boulevard. The device recorded bank card numbers of everyone who used the machine. Police say it was put there on Saturday, July 23 just before 4 p.m. and remained there until just after 8 p.m. the following day, on Sunday.

According to police, 50 customers had between $550 and $3,000 each stolen from their accounts, and it is likely that dozens more had their information stolen.

Anyone with questions, or any additional victims should call Det. Nick DeFelice of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Calvert Investigative Team at 410-535-1600 ext. 2669.

Police are still searching for the person who placed the device on the ATM.
