One Dead, Five Hospitalized in Seat Pleasant

Collision occurred on Seat Pleasant Drive

A 31-year-old man is dead and five others, including three children, have been hospitalized after a two-car accident in Seat Pleasant Saturday night.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Seat Pleasant Avenue and Joplin Street shortly after 7 p.m. when a Dodge Magnum collided with a Chevy Malibu. Investigators said that the Malibu was traveling east on Seat Pleasant Drive when it crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with the Dodge.

Police said that the driver of the Malibu, 31-year-old Reggie Crawford of Hillcrest Heights, was thrown from his vehicle upon impact. Crawford was later taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Crawford was the only occupant of the Malibu. The driver of the Dodge Magnum and an adult passenger were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The three children, ages eight, six, and three, were also passengers in the Magnum. They were transported to Children's Hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
