Silver Spring Teacher Arrested on Child Pornography Charge

Lawrence Joynes on administrative leave from New Hampshire Estates Elementary School

A local elementary school teacher was arrested after investigators allegedly found disturbing images on his computer.

Lawrence Joynes, 54, of Dundalk, has been been charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

Joynes has been placed on administrative leave from his job as a music teacher at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School in Silver Spring,

Parents told News4's Erika Gonzalez that Joynes was a favorite of students.

"He's that guy that everyone says hi to,"” said Robert Aguilar, a father of three children who were students of Joynes. "I'm in shock... I talk to him every morning and everyone knows him."

Aguilar said Joynes is the music teacher for the entire school, so all the students have had class with him. "And that's what the most concerning."

Principal Marinda Thomas Evans used a recorded phone message to notify parents

Joynes is being held in Baltimore County on a $1 million bond.

Montgomery County Police are investigating to determine if any crime was committed in their jurisdiction.
