Shots Fired at Police Following Home Invasion

Drama begins with routine traffic stop; no injuries reported

Police in Prince George's County, Md., are conducting an extensive search for a man who allegedly opened fire on officers following a home invasion.

The drama actually started to unfold at about noon Thursday during a routine traffic stop. Police stopped the driver of an SUV that was speeding along the 4000 block of 35th Street in Mount Rainier.
 
The driver fired shots at the officers and sped off. No one was hit.
 
police soon learned the same vehicle was spotted leaving the scene of a home invasion in the 4900 block of 56th Avenue in Bladensburg at about 11:30 a.m.
 
The SUV, a 2004 Black Chevy Tahoe with Maryland tags, was found abandoned in the 2800 block of Otis Street in northeast Washington.
