Sheriff's Deputy Shoots, Kills Man After Confrontation

A Harford County man who authorities said was acting aggressively and broke into a snowball stand has died after being shot by a sheriff's deputy.

The county sheriff's office said Seth Jacob Beckman, 19, was shot Saturday night during a confrontation with deputies in Bel Air. He died of his injuries early Sunday.

Authorities said Beckman broke into a snowball stand on Rock Spring Road and refused officers' orders to come out. Police had earlier received a report of a disorderly man and possible property destruction at a 7-11 across the street from the snowball stand.

Sheriff's office spokesman Edward Hopkins said the deputy involved in the shooting, whose name was not released, will be interviewed Monday and has been placed on administrative leave. The deputy has been on the force for two years.
