The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday morning it has not found any evidence that a perceived social media threat is credible and said that it was actually circulating third-party information.
The sheriff's office initially said a Snapchat screenshot contained rumored threats toward schools throughout the county.
However, authorities later said the image was not a threat but rather thirty-party information about an earlier, non-credible threat toward a single school. As that Snapchat screenshot began to circulate, students added speculation and rumors about additional schools being involved.
"At this time, the LCSO has found no evidence that lends credibility to any threats," the sheriff's office said on Twitter.
However, out of an abundance of caution, parents can expect police presence at every county school during school hours Wednesday, authorities said.
The screenshot is believed to have stemmed from a rumored threat at Broad Run High School earlier this week, authorities said. A student reportedly made a verbal threat against that school. After authorities investigated the report and interviewed the student, they determined that student did not have access to a firearm and deemed the threat non-credible.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has no reason to believe there was ever any additional threat made nor that there is any credible threat to any public school in the county.
