RAW VIDEO: Shelter Pets Don Ugly Apparel to Find Homes for the Holidays

Nothing warms the heart like a cold nose-- especially if that cold nose is wearing an ugly sweater.

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter is home to more than 60 dogs and cats, and as part of a special holiday promotion, some of these pets will don their best ugly sweaters in hopes of being adopted.

Between Friday and Saturday, in addition to seeing these adorable pets in their holiday best, adoptions are also being offered at discounted rates-- cats can be adopted for $50, dogs for $100. Most animals can be taken home on the same day as their adoption.

Program manager Kristen Auerbach says that many of the pets, like Calista the cat, have had tough lives and just needs homes where they can be cuddled and loved.

Auerbach says that the holiday season is one of the most dangerous times of year because many holiday foods, plants and trimmings can be harmful to pets health, and may even result in death.

Some of the top dangers to pets to be on the lookout for are chocolate, tree preserves, poinsettias and alcohol.
