A Hyattsville, Md., man is under arrest in connection to two sexual assaults.

Edwin Xaiver Rivas, 24, of the 6100 block of 39th Place, was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year in Mount Rainer, Md.

The victim told police an unknown man approached her from behind as she was walking in the 3300 block of Buchannan Street about 2:30 a.m. Jan. 28. Armed with a knife, the man sexually assaulted the victim and fled on foot, authorities said.

Prince George's County police arrested Rivas Saturday without incident. He has also been charged in a sexual assault being investigated by Hyattsville police.

"We already had the identification for the one guy," said Chris Pervis, of Hyattsville police. "We were able to develop a photospread, and one of our victims was able to make an ID on that, and we shared that information with Prince George's County, who in turn also was able to close one of their cases."

Police are looking into the possibility Rivas is responsible for other sexual assaults.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George's County Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit at 301-772-4908.
