Sewage Leak into Carroll Creek

Waste treatment plant running on generator

Public Works crews in Frederick, Maryland are trying to clean up a raw sewage leak on Monday.

The sewage is leaking into Carroll Creek.

The city's wastewater treatment plant on Gas House Pike is running on a generator until the problem can be fixed.

People are urged to avoid contact with Carroll Creek downstream of the leak, at Carroll Creek and the Monocacy River on Gas House Pike, but county officials say the drinking water is still safe.

The Frederick County Health Department said in a release that the sewage overflow does not affect city drinking water.
