The D.C. area dealt with stormy weather once again Tuesday.
Quickly intensifying storms brought very heavy rain, damaging winds and lightning to parts of D.C. and its suburbs Tuesday afternoon, knocking down trees and power lines and prompting several storm warnings and a tornado warning in central Anne Arundel County, which expired at 3:30 p.m.
The bulk of the threat has moved through the area in the afternoon, but more isolated storms continued through the evening.
A flash flood warning for southern Spotsylvania will be in effect until 10:15 p.m. A flash flood watch for parts of Maryland, D.C. and Virginia is in effect until 10 p.m.
A cold front moved in to put an end to the stormy weather. Expect cooler temperatures and less humidity with the cold front over the next couple of days.
This is the third day of severe weather in the D.C. area.
Three soldiers with the Old Guard at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall were injured while lowering a flag when lightning struck during Monday's storm. They were not seriously hurt, but were taken to Virginia Hospital Center by ambulance to be checked out. All three were released Monday and have returned to the base.
Monday's storms also prompted offcials to clear the Washington Monument of visitors. D.C. Fire and EMS reported a tree down at 28th and Q streets in Northwest.
In Arlington, Virginia, a tree crushed two unoccupied vehicles on North Glebe Road, which is closed for removal of the tree and reapairing downed wires.

Less intense storms followed the first line.

Similar storms and wind gusts brought a tree crashing down onto two cars in Northwest D.C. Sunday night, crushing them.
But fear not -- relief is on the way.
Storm Team4 meteorologist Tom Kierein says we'll get a chance to dry off Wednesday and Thursday when lower humidity and cooler temperatures move into the area.
