Several Homes Evacuated After Germantown Gas Line Break

Homes in one Germantown, Md., neighborhood were being evacuated Thursday due to a gas line break.

A contractor working in the area of Scenery Drive and Brandermill Drive struck the 8-inch gas line Thursday morning, said Montgomery County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham.

Gas from the high pressure line shot into the air,  blowing toward Frederick Road (Route 355).

Washington Gas had turned off the valve to the leaking line as of 4 p.m. About 70 homes are affected by the outage.
