Several Guns Confiscated at Area Airports

Within two days, TSA officers confiscated three weapons from travelers at two D.C. airports.

A woman carrying a loaded .38 special handgun in her carry-on bag was arrested Friday at Baltimore Washington International-Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).

The day before, TSA officers caught a man attempting to transport another loaded handgun at BWI, this time a 9-mm pistol reported stolen in Portland, Oregon.

The same day, officers at Ronald Reagan International (DCA) found a .44 caliber handgun in another another person’s carry-on.

In all three cases, the guns were detected by TSA officers as they passed through X-ray checkpoints.

Friday’s arrest makes the sixth of its kind this year at BWI. Eleven guns have been found and confiscated at DCA checkpoints.

TSA has details on how to properly travel with a firearm posted online. Travelers should also contact their airline regarding firearm and ammunition carriage policies, as they may have different guidelines.
