DC Middle School Students Sent to Hospital After Drinking Alcohol

A group of D.C. students went to a hospital Tuesday after sneaking alcohol into their middle school and drinking, school officials say.

Medics arrived to Sousa Middle School on Ely Place Southeast Tuesday afternoon and evaluated seven students. They took three of the students to a hospital for treatment.

Courtney Wilkerson, the principal of Sousa Middle School, said in a letter to parents and guardians the school contacted police and the fire department after learning that the students had alcohol.

"As a precaution, some of the students were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation," Wilkerson said in the letter.

Wilkerson said the school contacted the families of students who might have drank the alcohol and encouraged them to seek appropriate medical attention.
