Seventh Arrest in Waldorf Gang Rape

Police looking for three others in attack on woman

A seventh man has been arrested in connection with the gang rape of a woman in Waldorf, Md., last month.

Jose Maria Echebarria, 30, was taken into custody on March 31, in Newark, N.J.

Charles County police announced Monday that they are also looking for three new suspects, bringing the total accused in the brutal crime to 10.

On March 16, the 30-year-old victim thought she was getting a ride from an Alexandria, Va., pool hall. Instead of taking her home, the driver took her to a home on Nicholas Road in Waldorf.

The woman was beaten and repeatedly raped in the home by 10 men, investigators said.

After about three hours, she was able to escape and ran to a nearby home for help.

Seven men have now been charged with false imprisonment and first-degree rape.

Investigators are still looking for three others. They believe Jose Santos Portillo, Balmoris Argueta and Lionicio Argueta have likely left the Maryland area.

“This was a brutal attack and we are absolutely committed to bringing justice to the victim,” said Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey.  “We will continue to pursue each and every lead until all of the suspects are apprehended.”

A cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the remaining suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call (301) 932-2222.  Anonymous tips can be left at 1-866-411-TIPS or visit the Charles County Sheriff’s Office website.
