Md. Senate Delays Texting-While-Driving Bill Again

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Maryland Senate has delayed action -- again -- on a bill that would ban text messaging while driving.

The measure would create a maximum $500 fine for violations.

The bill is meant to send a message about the dangers of sending text messages while driving, supporters say, but some senators question how the law could be enforced.

That's because it would still be legal to talk on a cell phone while driving, and lawmakers are questioning how a police officer would know that a person is sending a text message instead of placing a call.
