The second man involved in the high speed crash that killed a Prince George's police officer is now in custody, police say.
Prince George's County Police officers Adrian Morris and Michael Risher were pursuing a silver Acura when their cruiser ran off Interstate 95 near the Powder Mill Road exit. Morris died after being ejected from the vehicle. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Kevon Darnell Neal, 23, of the 3400 block of Gennene Lane in Fort Washington, Md., turned himself in to police Thursday night. He was wanted for auto theft because of the stolen vehicle used in the pursuit.
Neal was driving fast and cutting through traffic, forcing several cars to swerve out of the way, police said.
Neal's passenger, Kenneth Clark Mitchell, 25, of Northeast D.C., was arrested and charged with auto theft.
The silver Acura was found about 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of St. Louis Street S.E. in the District.
Prior to the chase, the officers were called to a Laurel gas station to investigate an attempted car break-in. Witnesses saw two people trying to open the doors of a customer's car at a Shell station on Sandy Spring Road
Neal is being held without bond due to probation violations in multiple jurisdictions. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 30.
