Accident occurrs on Viers Mill Road

Police say that a man was crossing the road mid-block when he was hit by a Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the westbound lanes shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. Investigators say that the man was then hit for a second time by a dark-colored SUV that did not stop.

The pedestrian was taken first to Holy Cross Hospital  before being transferred to the Washington Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:48 Sunday morning.

Police have not identified the victim, but have described him as a Hispanic male between 35 and 50 year of age, standing five feet, four inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, a blue checkered button-down shirt, blue jeans and black slip-on shoes.

Police identified the driver of the Monte Carlo as 47-year-old Patrick Hughley of Silver Spring.

The accident happened between Randolph Road and Gridley Road, not far from where 59-year-old Rolando Martinez was struck and killed by a car while waiting for a bus early Saturday morning.

No arrests have been made at this time, though police are still looking for the driver of the SUV. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the victim or driver is asked to call (301) 840-2435.
