The victim of a hit-and-run returned home from the hospital as police continue to search for the driver who hit her as she was working as a school crossing guard.
Jawan Thompson suffered a broken neck and pelvis after she was hit by a car on Dec. 20 near the West Education Campus. She was working the intersection of Farragut Street Northwest and Georgia Avenue Northwest when she was struck.
According to the police report, the driver who hit Thompson slowed down and then fled the scene. A piece of the bumper was left behind, and investigators said they are looking for a blue car, possibly a Honda.
“How can a person be so heartless, just hit me and keep going?” said Thompson. “Not even just to stop, to make sure I was OK.”
Tiffani Johnson, whose daughter goes to school at West Education Campus, was outraged that a hit-and-run driver slammed into Thompson.
“I’m upset that it happened. I’m upset that she is in the pain that she’s in,” Johnson said. “We, as a West community, are heartbroken that somebody who literally protects our children everyday was injured, and that no one has come forward.”
Thompson is recovering from her injuries at home and said she remains in a lot of pain. Police are hoping someone will contact them with information about the vehicle or the driver involved in the hit-and-run crash.
