    Mother Charged in Crash That Killed 5 Kids, 1 Man

    The mother of two of the five kids killed in a Maryland crash in which a man also died is facing 12 charges. Meagan Fitzgerald reports prosecutors say she was driving with a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. (Published Tuesday, April 23, 2019)

    The woman driving when a car crashed killing five children and a 23-year-old man in Maryland in February is facing 12 charges, Prince George's County State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy said Tuesday.

    Dominique Taylor, the mother of two of the children who died, is charged with six counts of vehicular manslaughter and six counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol.

    Her blood alcohol level is believed to have been at least twice the legal limit, Braveboy said.

    Police arranged with Taylor's attorney for her to turn herself in to police Wednesday afternoon. She is being held on $100,000 bond.

    The single-car crash at about 4:25 a.m. Feb. 2 killed sisters London Dixon, 8, and Paris Dixon, 5, who were Taylor's daughters.

    Three of the sisters' cousins also were killed: Damari Herald, 15, Zion Beard, 14, and Rickelle Ricks, 6.

    The children were pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from the Chrysler Pacifica Taylor was driving on Route 301 near Pointer Ridge Drive in Bowie.

    Police said none of the children were properly restrained.

    The sixth victim, Cornell "Donte" Smith was taken off life support on Feb. 18, weeks after the crash.

    Taylor was among hundreds of people who attended the children's funeral on Feb. 16. She wore a neck brace.
