Rockville Woman Struck, Killed While Riding in Cycling Event in Frederick

A Maryland woman was fatally struck by a car while riding in a cycling event over the weekend.

Diane Centeno Deshields of Rockville was participating in the Firefighter 50 event in Frederick on Sunday, Maryland State Police said.

Deshields, 59, was riding on Good Intent Road through the intersection of Maryland Route 194 (Woodsboro Pike) shortly before 10 a.m. when she collided with a Chevrolet Malibu that was heading south on Route 194, according to a preliminary investigation, police said.

Deshields sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene about half an hour after the crash.

The occupants of the Chevrolet were not injured, police said.

Police are investigating the crash.
