    Drivers may want to avoid some roads in Alexandria, Va., between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

    Roads will be closed intermittently due to the funeral for a paramedic who died after falling off an Interstate 395 overpass in Shirlington while responding to a car fire last week.

    The following roads will be subject to intermittent closures:

    • Janneys Lane from King Street to Quaker Lane
    • Seminary Road from Quaker Lane to Kenmore Avenue
    • Van Dorn Street from Seminary Road to Braddock Road
    • Braddock Road from Van Dorn Street to North Howard Street
    • King Street from Scroggins Lane to Russell Road

    Hundreds of people turned out Wednesday to remember an Alexandria paramedic who died in the line of duty. Joshua Weissman died last week after falling from an overpass on I-395. His wake was a time to pay tribute.

    The funeral services also mean early dismissal from Alexandria schools. George Washington Middle, Hammond Middle, Minnie Howard, T.C. Williams High and Douglas Macarthur Elementary will close at 12:35 p.m. All other schools will let out at 1:20 p.m.
