Ring Stealing High-End Eyewear in Area

Going for Brands like Gucci

Some area eyewear vendors said thieves have robbed them blind of high-end glasses.

Expensive spectacles have been swiped from stores in Falls Church, Great Falls and Alexandria, and investigators are eyeing the crimes as a troubling new trend.

Fairfax County police said the each of the crimes look very similar.  At least two suspects enter a store.  One suspect tries to block the shopkeeper’s line of sight, while the other looks for glasses to loot.  Police say the thief picks up expensive pairs of eyewear, and then swaps them with similar-looking but cheaper pairs.

Police believe a total of four suspects are involved.  After seeing the same style of robbery several times, police connected the dots between four incidents.

On July 6, six pairs of Gucci glasses were taken from Steiner vision on Leesburg Pike in Falls Church.  The same day, a pair of Gucci glasses disappeared from the Arlington Boulevard True Visions store.

On July 11, four pairs of luxe lenses were lifted from the Great Falls Eye Center.  The last incident was Nov. 10, when six pairs of glasses were grabbed from the store For Eyes on Little River Turnpike.

The four suspects in the case are pictured in the surveillance photos above.
