Restaurant Workers Attacked, Again

Father dead after second attack in two weeks

Two brothers were attacked on their way home from work at a Waldorf, Md., restaurant Tuesday night. One brother was stabbed to death as the other watched in horror.

Lesponado Navarro Gutierrez, 30, was fatally stabbed in the abdomen during a struggle with the two attackers, his brother Luis said. The robbers ambushed the brothers just a few feet from the safety of their home. The suspects, armed with a handgun and a knife, demanded money and cell phones.

Lesponado Navarro Gutierrez leaves behind a wife and young daughter, who both live in El Salvador. He was working in the United States so he could send money back to them.

Tuesday's attack is remarkably similar to an attack on July 17. Two workers at the same restaurant, Yum's Buffet on Crain Highway, were robbed on the same quiet, residential street.

The two employees lived in the same house as the Navarro Gutierrez brothers. One had a stinging substance sprayed in his face.

Charles County Sheriff Rex Coffey has ordered that an additional $5,000 reward be added to the existing $1,000 Crime Stoppers reward for information on the attacks.
