Report: Wells Considering Run For Mayor

Ward 6 Council member cites early support

D.C. Council member Tommy Wells confirmed this week that he is considering running for Mayor in the 2014 election.

According to a report in the Washington Post, Wells first announced his intentions to explore a campaign Wednesday at the Fourth of July parade in Palisades.

"A lot of people are saying, 'Tommy, are you going to run?' People have been asking me to run, so I said, 'Sure,'" Wells told the Post in Saturday's story.

The 55-year-old Wells, a Democrat, has served on the D.C. Council since 2007.

Current Mayor Vincent C. Gray remains under a federal investigation relating to the finances of 2010 campaign. It is not yet clear if Gray will seek reelection in 2014.
