All SmarTrip cardholders can now add value to their cards online and avoid those pesky lines at Metro stations.
A pilot program that started with 250 users in June and later expanded to about 150,000 expanded to everyone today.
Users can add value by selecting their card number from their account online and selecting “add value.” The transaction isn’t complete until the users touch a SmarTrip target on a bus, a fare gate or a fare card machine with their SmarTrip cards.
It could take two business days to process to the card.
SmarTrip cards can hold a maximum value of $300. They are available by mail, at some CVS locations, at Giant Food stores and at Metro sales offices.
