Rash of Daylight Robberies in Silver Spring

Burglars targeting large electronics

Montgomery County police are looking for burglars who've broken into nine homes in the Silver Spring area since Nov. 19.

A police spokesperson told News4 the same items are targeted every time: Computers, televisions and larger electronics.

All of  the incidents happened during the day along University Boulevard between Interstate 495 and Piney Branch Road.

Police said residences at the following locations have been hit:

  • Unit block of Lauer Terrace
  • 200 block of Melbourne Avenue (2 incidents)
  • 9200 block of Mintwood Street
  • 9500 block of Saybrooke Avenue
  • 9300 block of Weaver Street
  • 9200 block of Daleview Court
  • 9500 block of Evergreen Street
  • 8900 block of Whitney Street

Detectives believe the break-ins may have been committed by the same people because of the way the crimes were executed.

The burglars get into the homes using rear or side doors and windows. They are described as as three or four men in their early teens or late 20s.  They are believed to be driving a dark blue, black or gray four-door older model sedan with dark-colored rims and dark tinted windows. The car may have Virginia license plates.

Some people in the area have spotted the suspects in the area on several occaisions, police said, but no one called police. Anyone who sees anything suspicious is urged to call 911 immediately.
