Don't Cut Out The Arts!

With budget cuts looming, parents and students rallly to save the arts

Students, teachers, parents and other concerned citizens rallied in Fairfax County Tuesday night to save the arts.

The Fairfax Arts Coalition for Education or FACE is fearful major cuts are coming to the arts programs in Fairfax County Schools due to a budget shortfall. According to FACE, unless the school district receives a large increase in funding from the Board of Supervisors, the school system will face cuts to programs like nothing in recent memory.

The group says Superintendent Jack Dale has stated he would prefer not to cut elementary band and string programs, but it will depend on whether funds are transferred from the Board of Supervisors.

Many fear the cuts to band and strings would consequently destroy music programs on all levels in Fairfax County.

The group FACE, has set up a Web site, www.faceadvocacy.org, to help concerned citizens learn about the possible cuts.
