Purple Is the New Black: Campaign Raising Domestic Abuse Awareness

Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign Kicks-Off

The "purple purse" is winding its way through Fairfax County.

It's part of a campaign to increase awareness about domestic abuse.

Braddock Supervisor John Cook was first to receive the purse and passed it on to the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Sharon Bulova.

As the purse is passed, money is raised for Shelter House, a non-profit in Northern Virginia that provides services to homeless families and victims of domestic violence.

Joe Meyer, executive director of Shelter House, says proceeds will help build services to financially empower the clients served by the charity.
