Puppy Shot, Killed in Maryland

Fatal shooting on Wednesday

Authorities in Frederick County want to know who shot and killed a Golden Retriever puppy in Middletown on Wednesday.

The dog's owner, Lynette Kauffman, said she discovered the 7-month-old dog named Heidi in the backyard of her farmhouse.  She said the dog had been killed by multiple gunshots.

Frederick County Animal Control confirmed the incident happened on Station Road between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Kauffman said she and her family have fostered abandoned Golden Retrievers at their farmhouse for many years.  "I just give them love," she told News4's Jackie Bensen.

The shooting is being investigated by authorities, and will include forensic analysis of the bullets removed from the young golden retriever's body.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call animal control at 301-600-1544.
