Public Invited to Comment on Proposed Dulles Toll Road Rates

One-way drive could be $4.50 by 2015

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is now taking public comments on its proposed rate increases along the Dulles Toll Road.

Under the proposal, the combined one-way rate for a ride on the length of the toll road, which connects Dulles International Airport to the Capital Beltway, would increase from $2.25 to $2.75 in 2013; to $3.50 in 2014, and to $4.50 in 2015.

Rate increases are needed to pay for extending the Metrorail system through Tysons Corner and to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County. Commuters on the toll road have complained that they are paying an unfair share of the costs for a system that they do not use.

You can submit your comments online. Additionally, three public hearings are scheduled for September in Ashburn, Reston and McLean.
