Prosecutors Oppose Moving Marathon Bombing Trial to D.C.

Federal prosecutors are opposing a defense request to move the November trial of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to Washington, D.C.

Prosecutors said in a motion Tuesday the defense hasn't shown extraordinary prejudicial news coverage in Boston, and a preliminary defense survey showing bias in the population isn't reliable.

Prosecutors say they believe a fair panel can be found in the "large and diverse'' eastern Massachusetts population of over five million.

Tsarnaev has pleaded not guilty to 30 federal charges, some of which could carry the death penalty.

Prosecutors say Tsarnaev and his brother planted two bombs that exploded near the 2013 marathon finish line, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others. His brother died after a shootout with police.
