Prince George's County Officers Honored for Bravery

First responders receive medals of valor

On Wednesday, Prince George's County honored several brave men and women who went above and beyond the call of duty to keep county residents safe.

The county held its 35th annual Public Safety Valor Awards at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt.

County firefighters and police officers were given gold, silver and bronze medals of valor for their actions during moments of peril in 2011.

Police Sergeant Robbie Loveday was a recipient. He was one of the officers who stood up to a bank robber who took a teller hostage at a Capital One Bank in Takoma Park in January 2011. The robber pistol-whipped a customer and displayed a fake bomb.
