Prince George's County Free Mulch Giveaway

The mulch is made from Christmas trees and is a great way to go green for Earth Day

Prince George’s County is celebrating Earth Day with a free Mulch Giveaway!

The Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources’ (DER) Waste Management Division (WMD) is sponsoring a free Mulch Giveaway for county residents and citizens.

It’s a one day event taking place on April 21 at the Prince George’s County Yard Waste Composting Facility located at 6601 SE Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro.

The mulch, made primarily from the Christmas trees collected after the holiday, is very useful and beneficial for gardens and a great way to go green.

“What better way to go “green” and celebrate Earth Day than to beautify your yard and community by adding mulch to the landscape,” said DER Director Samuel E. Wynkoop, Jr.  “Mulch helps to deter weeds, keep the soil moist and prevent soil erosion.  I encourage all residents to take advantage of this free resource to enhance your neighborhood and the environment.”

The event is restricted to non-commercial vehicles, three-fourths ton maximum weight.

A skid loader will be available to load mulch into citizens’ pickup trucks but residents’ loading mulch into their cars will have to bring their own containers and tools.
