Prince George's Police ID Man Shot by Officer

District Heights man killed during an incident with a police officer

Police in Prince George's County have identified a man who was fatally shot by a police officer. They say a gun, a vial of suspected PCP and a ski mask were found in his possession.

District Heights resident Michael Anthony Bailey, 26, was killed during a Monday night scuffle with a police officer, authorities say.

The officer encountered Bailey and two other men hanging out in a high-crime area in Landover, but the group fled. A police department spokeswoman says the officer tried to use a stun gun to subdue Bailey, but that Bailey managed to pull the prongs from the device from his body and continued running.

Authorities say the officer, who is on administrative leave, fired shots after Bailey reached for a gun in the waistband of his pants.
