Britain's Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, arrived in D.C. Tuesday to meet with President Barack Obama and visit cultural and educational sites over the next three days.
The royal couple arrived Tuesday evening at Andrews Air Force Base, the British Embassy said. They were greeted with a reception at the British ambassador's residence.
On Wednesday, Prince Charles and Camilla are scheduled to visit George Washington's historic Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. Prince Charles will also visit the National Archives, while Camilla will visit the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington.
On Thursday, the royal couple visits the Armed Forces Retirement Home, which also is the site of President Abraham Lincoln's summer cottage. They will also meet President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House.
British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott said in a statement that the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwell will promote democratic values and environmental preservation, and perform an "essential role" in keeping the trans-Atlantic relationship "special."
Prince Charles last visited the U.S. in 2011, when he also met with Obama.
The Duchess of Cornwall is also scheduled to meet with local advocates for victims of sexual assault, a cause she champions in the U.K as well.

"The visit is exciting," said Dr. Heather Devore, of D.C.'s Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). "We hope that the visit will help us shine a light on our process in D.C."
SART consists of 12 agencies that work together to help survivors through the physical and emotional trauma of sexual assault.
