Pregnant Woman Stabbed in Bethesda

Police uncertain about motive

A pregnant woman was hospitalized after being stabbed in the torso Monday night on Hampden Lane in Bethesda, just a block off Wisconsin Avenue.
 
The woman is expected to survive, and the injuries are not expected to affect the pregnancy.
 
The 32-year-old victim form D.C. is 15 weeks along in her pregnancy. Her injuries are not considered serious.
 
"The motive for the incident is totally unknown," said Capt. Ray Hanson of the Montgomery County Police Department.
 
The public is not in danger, police said.
 
"We do not believe that this is a random act, and we do not believe that public safety is an issue here," Montgomery County Police Department Lt. Paul Starks said.
 
The victim told police she was dragged off Hampden Lane and stabbed.
 
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing to call them.
