Pre-Gadhafi Flag Raised at Ambassador's Residence

Outside the Libyan ambassador's residence, a handful of protesters joined by the ambassador himself gathered to lend their support to their compatriots in Libya.

"They're saying the blood of the innocent people will not be wasted," says Ashraf Tulty, one of the protesters and a Libyan-American from Ashburn, Va.

The group raised up a red, black and green flag on the ambassador's flag pole.

Ambassador Ali Aujali explained this is the flag that flew before Moammar Gadhafi, raised after Libya gained independence from Italy.

"The Libyan people fought the Italians for 30 years to get their independence. This flag represents our past and our future," he said.

The protesters asked media not to let Libya fall off the radar screen, and asked the U.S. government to freeze Gadhafi's assets and approve a no-fly zone over the country.
