Teen in Custody in Murder of Md. Teacher

Wheeling died of multiple blunt-force trauma

Maryland State police are questioning a 13-year-old boy in connection with the brutal sexual assault and murder of a 65-year-old teacher at a Prince Georges’ County juvenile detention center.

Police say the boy was housed in the unlocked shelter where Hannah Wheeling of Bel Air, Md. taught. A motive for the attack remains unknown.

The body of the beloved teacher was discovered last Thursday by another employee outside the facility’s Murphy’s School cottage where Wheeling taught general studies.

Autopsy results concluded Wheeling died of multiple blunt-force trauma.

Police have moved the teen suspect to another facility, according to sources.

About 20 youth offenders are housed at the facility and are considered dangerous to themselves or others.

No one has been charged in the case.
