Police Seek Birth Mothers of Girls Found in Freezer

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- In order to help completely solve the case, investigators are searching for the birth mothers of two adopted girls found dead in a freezer inside a Calvert County home, Montgomery County police said.

The girls were tentatively identified as Jasmine Nicole Bowman, who would be 9, and Minnet C. Bowman, who would be 11. They were two of three adopted daughters of 43-year-old Renee Bowman.

The identification of the girls was made by a family friend who was shown a picture of Minnet and Jasmine.  Because a family friend made the identifications, police said it is not official. Investigators are doing everything they can to make positive identifications.

"We're using all resources we have to track down who the birth mothers are," Lt. Paul Starks said. "It's somewhat of a challenge because they were adopted and those records, by law, are sealed."

A judge can make exceptions to the law, Starks said.

Bowman is facing child abuse charges concerning her third adopted, who ran away from home, ultimately leading to the discovery of the bodies in Lusby. Bowman has not been charged in connection with the deaths of the children.

Montgomery County police are leading the investigation because it is believed the girls died while living in Rockville.
