An Uber driver wanted for trying to sexually assault a woman blocks away from the U.S. Capitol has been arrested, D.C. police say.
A woman told police a driver she hired stopped his car in the middle of their trip and viciously attacked her about 4 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 on East Capitol Street SE.
The victim told police the man parked his car during the trip and tried to sexually assault her.
When she began yelling, the driver strangled her and punched her multiple times, a police report said. The victim eventually escaped the vehicle, and the suspect left the area in a four-door, dark-colored sedan.
The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, police arrested 32-year-old Selvin Chocooj, of Oxon Hill, Maryland, and charged him with assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual abuse.
A spokesperson for Uber said in a statement previously that Chocooj was removed from its service as soon as police told the company about the alleged assault. The company was not sure how long Chocooj had been an Uber driver. The spokesperson said Uber is cooperating with police.
