Police: 2 Football Players Hazed, Assaulted in Locker Room

A Virginia teen has been arrested on charges including attempted sodomy in connection with the alleged hazing and assault of two Spotsylvania County High School football players.

Detectives said the sheriff's office was made aware of the alleged assault that occurred in the boys' locker room at the school. They said their investigation showed that two juvenile boys, ages 14 and 15, had been hazed and assaulted by older student-athletes prior to an away game on Oct. 23.

The victims were reluctant to admit to being assaulted but eventually confirmed the attacks.

Detectives were able to identify one of the juvenile suspects, a 15-year-old. He was taken into custody and charging with attempted sodomy with an inanimate object, a felony, and assault by mob, a misdemeanor. The juvenile suspect was transported to the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Facility.

"This incident, causing the victimization of our young people, is a very serious matter," said Sheriff Roger L. Harris. "Schools should be a safe haven for our kids, and we will continue to thoroughly investigate this matter."

Detectives and school resource officers are continuing the investigation of this matter, and several additional juveniles are being sought for interviews.
