Police: 3 Suspects Sought in Triple Homicide in Southeast DC

Police are looking for three suspects after three men were found fatally shot Saturday night in Southeast D.C.

Authorities arrived at the scene in the 1500 block of Fort Davis Place SE just after 10 p.m. and found two men fatally shot inside a car. They found a third victim in the middle of the street, D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said.

Police said three suspects left the scene in a dark blue or black sedan headed toward Alabama Avenue SE.

During a news conference Sunday, Police Chief Peter Newsham said the victims were 26-year-old Sean Shuler, 26-year-old Javon Abney and 24-year-old Tyrik Hagood.

Newsham said police were still looking for the suspects and that detectives were out canvassing the area.

"This is a very quiet residential neighborhood. It is not clear what the victims were doing in this block last night before the shooting. At this point we have found no ties to the victims in this case to the neighborhood," Newsham said.

"We have had too many gun crimes at the start of 2019 and too many lives lost," Bowser said at the news conference Sunday. "Ending the violence is going to take more than just the efforts of MPD."

Earlier Saturday, 59-year-old Kevin Jerome Harrison died in a separate shooting in the 4100 block of Hayes Street NE. Police did not give any information about suspects in that case.

Including the victims of Saturday's shootings, a total of 18 people have been killed in gun-related homicides in the District so far in 2019.

"It's too small of a city to have the number of guns that we have," Newsham said Saturday night. "I think we all need to roll up our sleeves. The police department is arresting a lot of folks carrying illegal firearms. We've got to make sure we have consequences in this city to change behavior, and right now we don't have that."
