Police: Toddler Dies After Abuse by Mother's Boyfriend

2-year-old was found unresponsive Wednesday morning

Police say a 2-year-old boy who was abused by his mother’s boyfriend has died from his injuries.

Prince George's Police say Jamir Khaden Shipe died on Thursday. His death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

On Wednesday, the little boy was left in the care of Clifton Edward Bernard, 26, who admitted to assaulting the toddler inside his home on the 3800 block of Swann Road.

Police say the child suffered several injuries, including trauma to the head, and was unresponsive when officers arrived at Bernard's home Wednesday morning.

Bernard, of Suitland, has been charged with first degree murder and related charges. He had previously been charged with attempted murder, first- and second-degree child abuse, and first- and second-degree assault. He is being held without bond.
