Six people were hospitalized following a police chase that ended with a crash at Arlington National Cemetery.
Security at Tysons Corner Mall called Fairfax County police about several people who had allegedly stolen items from Abercrombie and Fitch Thursday afternoon.
Fairfax County police began pursuing an SUV about 3:30 p.m. and were led on a chase south on the George Washington Parkway into Arlington then into D.C. and back into Arlington, where U.S. Park Police and Virginia State Police got involved. Helicopters from two jurisdictions aided the pursuit.
After driving in to Arlington National Cemetery and heading back in the direction of D.C., the driver of the SUV failed to negotiate a curve on Memorial Circle and crashed, rolling the SUV a couple of times, Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser told News4’s Jackie Bensen.
The six people inside the SUV, including a boy approximately 5 years old, were taken to area hospitals. Police are investigating items founds in the SUV, including several shopping bags, Bensen reported.
Memorial Circle was closed, and major delays were expected at the Memorial Bridge.
